LOCAL SPECIALTIES
No trip would be complete without sampling the local specialties. The Dalmatian region, home to The Glamping Resort – by Ritch, boasts many exclusive traditional dishes and gourmet-quality products. To experience the local cuisine authentically, we recommend visiting the nearby restaurants and konobas.
Konobas, smaller taverns, focus on simple, traditional dishes that reveal the culinary essence of Croatian cuisine. The drink selection is also typically local, featuring regional wines, Croatian beers, spirits, and soft drinks, offering a genuine taste of the area.

No matter where you choose to dine, make sure not to miss the following local specialties during your stay.
Traditional Specialities
OLIVE & SEA - THE CLASSICS
Given our proximity to the sea, fish and seafood are always an excellent choice when dining locally in Mediterranean countries. We particularly recommend them simply grilled over an open flame or prepared as a traditional peka. Peka is one of Dalmatia’s most famous dishes, known for its special cooking method that ensures exceptional tenderness and juiciness.
Another classic, often overlooked but not to be underestimated, is the variety of regional olive oils. Many families produce high-quality, intensely flavoured olive oils from fruits from their own gardens, making them perfect souvenirs as well.
Dalmatian Dry-Cured Ham Pršut
If you want to experience a true culinary treasure of the region, don’t miss out on pršut, Dalmatian dry-cured ham similar to Italian prosciutto. Croatian smoked meats are more than just a delicacy—they are a source of regional pride. Dalmatian pršut is slowly dried by the region’s dry north wind and, unlike the variant from the Istrian peninsula, is also smoked. Apart from sea salt, no additives are allowed, ensuring a particularly intense and pure flavour.
Pag Sheep Cheese
Croatia’s most popular cheese hails from the region, specifically from the island of Pag in northern Dalmatia. The local Pag sheep are a very small breed that produce limited amounts of milk. Grazing on sparse, herb-covered pastures where sea salt is deposited by the wind, their milk has a naturally salty flavour. The resulting cheese, praised for its distinctive aroma, has won multiple awards in recent years and is internationally renowned. Particularly after long maturation, it is considered one of the best sheep cheeses in the world. If you are a cheese connoisseur, a taste of Pag cheese is a must!
Goat Cheese (Sir iz Mišine)
If you are a fan of strong, spicy cheeses, you must try the regional goat cheese Sir iz Mišine. What makes this cheese unique is its maturation process in sheep leather, known as Mišina. This special method results in irregularly shaped cheese wheels, which adds to the distinctive charm of this flavourful variety.
The Original Maraschino Liqueur
The king of liqueurs, Maraschino, also originates from this region, where the world’s tastiest sour cherry, the famous Maraska, thrives. In Zadar, Maraschino liqueur is still made from these cherries using the same process as three hundred years ago. The unique flavour is truly something special, so why not treat yourself to a glass as a dessert?
Dalmatian Wines
Dalmatia is one of Croatia’s four wine regions and the country’s oldest wine-growing area. It might surprise you to learn that one of the world’s most famous and popular grape varieties – known as Primitivo in Italy and Zinfandel in America – originated here. The sunny and dry coastal conditions are perfect for many grape varieties, with red wine production traditionally dominating this part of Dalmatia. Indulge in the local varieties and complement your culinary journey through Croatian cuisine with a glass of ruby red wine!
